Currency and balances

The economy gives every member of your server a balance in a currency you define, and a paper trail for every coin that moves. It is configured on the Economy page, under the Settings tab.

Turning on Enable the economy is the master switch. While it is off, every economy command refuses to run.

The economy belongs to the server, not to a bot. If you also run a custom bot, both bots share one currency, one shop and the same balances, and members can use the economy commands with either.

Naming the currency

Under Currency you set:

  • Currency name, the plural form. The default is Coins.
  • Singular name, optional, used when the amount is exactly 1, so you get 1 Coin instead of 1 Coins.
  • Currency emoji, shown next to every amount in chat. The default is 🪙 and your own server emojis work.
  • Currency image URL, optional, used in embeds and on the web.

Display format

Below the emoji, Format decides how every amount is written, in the bot's replies and on the website alike. An amount is made of up to three parts: the amount itself, the currency name and the currency emoji.

  • Put them in any order: drag a part by its handle, or move it with its arrows.
  • Remove the name or the emoji with its ✕ to leave it out, and bring it back with the buttons under the parts. The amount is always shown.
  • Between two parts, click the joint to put a space there or to attach them.

A preview under the parts shows the result before you save.

FormatAn amount reads
The default🪙 1,250 Coins
Emoji after the amount1,250 🪙 Coins
Emoji attached after the amount, no name1,250🪙
Name first, no emojiCoins 1,250
No emoji1,250 Coins
Amount only1,250

Each part appears at most once, and a space only ever sits between two parts, so an amount can never be repeated or padded with blanks.

Buttons and autocomplete suggestions cannot show a server emoji, so they write the amount without it, keeping one space between the parts on either side (1,250 Coins).

The public leaderboard and shop pages follow the same format, a server emoji included. They are cached briefly, so a change can take up to two minutes to show there.

Wallets

A wallet is created the first time a member touches the economy. Under Balances:

  • Starting balance is granted once, at that moment. It defaults to 0.
  • Maximum balance is a hard ceiling on what a member holds, wallet and safe together. Leave it empty for no cap, which is the default.

The cap only ever blocks credits. A payment out of a wallet always lands, so a member sitting at the cap can still spend, and a refund is never blocked by it. When a credit would push a member past the cap, the operation is refused rather than silently trimmed.

A balance can never go below zero. Anything that would overdraw a member is rejected instead.

Members check their own with /economy balance, or someone else's with /economy balance user. Looking at someone who has never taken part shows the starting balance; it creates nothing for them.

The safe

The safe is a second balance next to the wallet that robbers cannot touch. It is off until you turn it on, in the Safe card of the Settings tab:

  • Enable the safe lets members move coins into it.
  • Daily deposit limit is the most a member can move in per UTC day, counted on what leaves the wallet, fee included. It is 1,000 by default; leave it empty for no limit.
  • Deposit fee (%), from 0 to 50, is the share of every deposit that is burned. It is 0 by default.

Members deposit and withdraw from the economy menu (Deposit…, Deposit max, Withdraw…, Withdraw all) or with /economy safe deposit [amount] and /economy safe withdraw [amount]. Without an amount, a deposit moves the most the wallet and the day's limit allow, and a withdraw takes everything. Withdrawing is free and instant, and stays possible when you turn the safe off, so coins are never trapped.

What the safe changes:

  • A robber can only take from the target's wallet. A target whose coins are all in the safe has nothing worth stealing.
  • Fines are not avoided by it: a failed rob or crime fines a percentage of the wallet and the safe together, taken from the wallet first, and the reply says how much came from the safe.
  • Every spend (payments, the shop, the casino, the marketplace, trades, tickets, automations) uses the wallet only.
  • The leaderboard, the rank and the Maximum balance count the total, wallet and safe together.
  • /economy balance and the economy menu show the wallet, the safe and the total while the safe is on, or while a member still has coins in it.

/economy admin give, take and set take an optional account (wallet by default) to adjust the safe instead, and the dashboard's adjust window has the same choice. /economy admin reset sets both the wallet and the safe of a member to zero.

The economy menu

/economy menu opens a panel that only the member who ran it can see. It shows their balance, their rank and their daily streak, and for each reward your server pays out, whether it is ready now or when it will be.

  • Daily, Work, Crime and Collect claim the reward on the spot, with exactly the same amounts, cooldowns and streak as the matching /economy command. A button is green when its reward is ready. A grey one still answers: Daily, Work and Crime with the time left, Collect with "Nothing to collect right now." (the panel's line shows when the next income is due).
  • Help explains how the economy works on your server: what pays and how much, the cooldowns, the wallet limits, transfers and fees, the casino limits and the robbing rules. It is built from your current settings, so it follows every change you make.
  • Server shop, Inventory, Marketplace and Leaderboard open those panels in the same message, each with a Back button to the menu (see the shop, items and trading). The leaderboard shows your own rank under the ranking.
  • Refresh updates the panel, and ✕ closes it.

Only the rewards you configured get a line and a button, and Collect only for members who hold a role with a collected income. The panel closes by itself after 10 minutes without a click, and after an hour at most.

The minimum account age gate

Minimum account age (days), in the Transfers section, is an anti-alt measure. Discord accounts younger than that earn nothing from the passive sources (message activity, voice activity, XP gain and level up), cannot send or receive a payment and cannot rob. /economy daily, /economy work, /economy crime and /economy collect are not gated by it. Setting it to 0, the default, disables the gate.

It is worth setting on a server that has been raided: a throwaway account made this morning cannot farm coins to pass to a main account.

Every movement is recorded

Each coin movement writes one line to a ledger, tagged with a reason: a daily claim, a shop purchase, a transfer, a fine, an admin adjustment. Nothing moves coins outside of it, and lines are never edited: a correction is a new, opposite line.

Members see their own lines with /economy history. Staff with Manage Server can pass a member to /economy history user to inspect someone else's.

The Activity tab of the Economy page is the full picture: how much currency exists, what is minting and what is burning it per day, a breakdown by reason, top earners and top spenders, and the raw ledger with filters by member and by reason.

How far back the dashboard can look depends on your tier:

Correcting a balance

From Discord, with Manage Server:

CommandWhat it does
/economy admin give user amount [reason]Adds coins
/economy admin take user amount [reason]Removes coins, stopping at 0
/economy admin set user amount [reason]Sets the balance to an exact number
/economy admin reset userSets the balance to 0
/economy admin reset-allWipes every balance, inventory and history on the server

reset-all is irreversible and asks for a confirmation first. The optional reason on the other three is an audit note, up to 200 characters, stored with the ledger line.

From the dashboard, the Activity tab has a member lookup that shows a member's balance, rank, lifetime earned and spent, inventory and recent history, with the same give, take and set actions. There a reason is mandatory, and it is stored alongside your own user id.

Public pages

Under Visibility and integrations you can expose two read-only web pages for your server, both off by default:

  • a public leaderboard of the richest members;
  • a public shop page listing your items.

Each has a Copy link button next to it. Visitors need to be signed in with Discord to open either one.

The same section holds Refund ticket cost on close: if a ticket panel charges coins to open a ticket, the coins are returned when the ticket is closed.
