Radio mode

Radio mode turns a FlaviBot into your server's radio station. It plays in a home channel you pick. Your jingles and station IDs air between songs. Members request songs and vote on them. A team of hosts runs it all from the dashboard or from their phone, without joining voice.

Going on air puts the station in its home channel, where it plays its own rotation from your server playlists. With 24/7, it stays there around the clock, even when nobody is listening. Off air, FlaviBot is a plain music player: the Studio stays open to prepare the station, and everything live waits for Go on air.

Is Radio mode available on my server?

Yes. Radio mode runs on every server with an official FlaviBot bot. It does not run on custom bots.

Every server can set up its station and go on air for free, with everything live: the rotation, the cart wall, jingles between songs and requests. Without 24/7, the station goes off air once nobody has listened for the inactivity timeout (10 minutes by default). A plan that includes 24/7 (Server Premium Silver, Gold or Platinum) keeps it on air with nobody in voice. Premium also sets how big your station gets (see Premium limits).

Where is the Studio?

In your server's dashboard, open Music & Voice → Radio mode. That page is the Studio. Its cards:

  • Settings: the switch, the home channel, and what listeners see
  • On air: what is playing, the controls, and Go on air
  • Cart wall: your jingles and spoken lines, on buttons
  • On-air programme: what the station plays by itself while on air
  • Jingles between songs: imaging that airs on its own
  • Request line: song requests and votes
  • Station team: who runs the station

Each FlaviBot on your server runs its own station. The Audio library is shared by the whole server.

Open the live console opens the Studio's live half on its own page, made for a phone: the On air card, the cart wall and the request line. A host can run the show from there without being in voice.

How do you set up a station?

You need Manage Server for these steps.

  1. Open Music & Voice → Radio mode and turn Radio mode on in the Settings card.
  2. Pick a Home channel: a voice or Stage channel of your server that FlaviBot can view, join and speak in. Hosts control the bot only there, and jingles play only there.
  3. Upload a station ID or a jingle in the Audio library, or skip this step and use spoken lines.
  4. Add your first pads on the Cart wall.
  5. Pick your playlists in the On-air programme, then press Go on air.
  6. Add your hosts in Station team.

Hide cue titles from listeners (on by default) keeps the song's title on screen while a jingle or a station ID plays.

The cart wall

A cart wall is a grid of buttons that fire a cue in a heartbeat. Each pad plays one of two things:

  • A spoken line: FlaviBot reads your text on air. Up to 200 characters.
  • An Audio library file: a station ID, a jingle, a sweeper, a stinger…

Give each pad a label (up to 40 characters), an optional emoji (a standard emoji or one of your server's) and an optional colour. Pads sit in banks of 12, up to 16 banks.

When does a pad air?

Each pad has its own When tapped setting:

  • Cut in: the song stops, the cue plays, and the song picks up where it was.
  • Over the music: the music lowers and the cue plays on top. Some players cannot mix two sounds: there the pad cuts in instead, and the Studio tells you.
  • After this song: the cue plays once the song ends.

A tap uses the pad's own setting. A long press or Shift + click fires it after this song, and the pad's ⋮ menu offers all three. On a keyboard, keys 1 to 0 fire the first ten pads of the bank, and Shift with a key fires after this song.

Up to 3 cues can wait to play after this song. Two Cut in fires are at least 10 seconds apart. Each station also has an hourly budget of fires, which depends on your plan.

Pads fire only while the station is on air and no music quiz is running.

Jingles between songs

The Jingles between songs card airs a cue on its own between two songs, while the station is on air:

  • How often: between every song, or every 2 to 20 songs (3 by default)
  • From the Audio library: the types of file to pick from (Station ID and Jingle by default)
  • From the cart wall: pads to pick from

FlaviBot plays the cue that has gone longest without airing. It never plays one after a skipped song, into silence, or right after a host's own cue. These jingles do not count against the hourly fires.

The music player shows when the next one is due: Jingle after this song or Jingle in 3 songs.

The Audio library

Open Music & Voice → Audio library. The Jingles & IDs tab holds your station's sound:

TypeLongest
Station ID30 s
Jingle60 s
Sweeper30 s
Liner30 s
Promo60 s
Stinger10 s
Show open90 s
Show close90 s
Voice track3 min
Music bed5 min

Files can be MP3, OGG, Opus, FLAC, WAV, M4A or WebM, up to 5 MB each. When you upload, you confirm that you own the audio or have permission to broadcast it in your server.

Your files stay with your server. Only FlaviBot plays them, in voice: there is no preview, no public link and no download.

From the library:

  • Play next queues a file right after the current song.
  • Pin to cart puts a jingle on the first free place of the cart wall.

Deleting a file also deletes the cart pads that play it.

Going on air

The On air card shows what plays, how far along it is, what comes next and how many people listen. It offers Pause, Resume, Skip, Stop, the volume (0 to 200%) and Add a song (play next, or add to the end).

Go on air puts the station on air. FlaviBot joins the home channel and stays there. It needs:

  • Radio mode switched on
  • a home channel

With 24/7 (Silver and up), the station stays on air with nobody in voice. Without it, the station goes off air once nobody has listened for the inactivity timeout (10 minutes by default), and the Studio says so.

Go off air takes two taps. The station's own player leaves the channel. A member's music in that channel keeps playing, as on any music player: off air, the music player shows no Radio panel and no request line, no jingle airs between songs, and requests wait for the next show.

On air, Stop clears the queue and the station goes back to its programme. A radio does not stop: to end the show, go off air.

You can also do this from Discord with /station on-air and /station off-air.

The on-air programme

The On-air programme card decides what the station plays by itself:

  • Server playlists: up to 5 of your server's playlists
  • Order: Smart (the default), Shuffle or Playlist order
  • The same song again after (3 hours by default) and The same artist again after (30 minutes by default), from Off to 24 hours, in Smart order
  • When the rotation has nothing it may play: Similar songs (the default) or Silence
  • When nobody is listening: Keep playing (the default), Pause the song, or Finish the song, then wait

The same song never plays twice in a row. When nothing passes the gaps, the artist gap is dropped first, then the song gap is halved.

Whatever you choose, the station stays in its home channel (without 24/7, until the inactivity timeout). A song paused for an empty room resumes when someone joins, and a waiting station starts its next song.

While the station is on air

  • 24/7 mode is paused. /24-7 enable and the dashboard card refuse to turn it on until the station goes off air.
  • Members in another voice channel cannot pull the bot away. They are told: "Radio mode is on air in #channel: join it to listen."
  • Members in the home channel play songs as usual: they join the queue ahead of the rotation.
  • The music controller says that the station is on air, and a song from the rotation reads "From the station's rotation".

If the station loses its place, FlaviBot puts it back within 5 minutes.

Why did the station go off air?

The Studio says why:

  • Someone disconnected FlaviBot from the home channel, with a right click or /disconnect.
  • Nobody listened for the inactivity timeout, on a plan without 24/7.
  • Radio mode was switched off.
  • The home channel is gone. Pick another one in the settings.
  • FlaviBot can't view, join or speak in the home channel.

None of these undo themselves: a host goes on air again when it is fixed.

Requests and votes

Open the Request line card to let members request songs while the station is on air. It is closed by default. Its settings:

  • How a request gets on air: Host review (the default), Listener votes, or Instant
  • Who can request: Everyone (the default), People in the station's channel, or Members of some roles
  • Votes needed (3 by default), counted as upvotes minus downvotes
  • Who can vote: People in the station's channel (the default) or Everyone
  • Cooldown between requests, per member (10 minutes by default; hosts skip it)
  • Longest song (8 minutes by default)
  • Allow downvotes (on by default)

While the station is on air, members request from:

  • the music player's Request line panel
  • /station request with a song name or a link
  • a message: right click it, then Apps → Request on air
  • the music controller's channel: while the line is open, a song typed there by a listener becomes a request

Requesting a song that is already waiting adds your upvote to it. A request waits up to 2 hours, then expires. Approved requests air on the station, in its home channel.

Hosts review them in the music player or the live console with Approve and Reject.

The station team

Only members with Manage Server can change the Station team card. It hands parts of the station to a role or to one member, for This bot or Every FlaviBot on the server:

PresetWhat it allows
HostSee the Studio, control playback, go on or off air, fire the cart wall, review requests
ProducerSee the Studio, manage the Audio library, edit the cart pads
Station managerEverything a host and a producer can do, and manage the request line
CustomExactly the permissions you tick

A host does not need Manage Server. A member whose only access is the station opens the dashboard on Radio mode and the Audio library, without the rest of your settings.

The settings, the on-air programme and the jingles between songs stay with Manage Server.

Commands

/station request song:<a song or a link>
/station on-air
/station off-air

Every answer is private. on-air and off-air need the Go on or off air permission. The message command Request on air requests the song or link a message holds.

On the free plan, a station goes on air while people listen, and goes off air once nobody has listened for the inactivity timeout. A server that moves to a smaller plan keeps its pads (only new ones are refused), and a station whose plan no longer includes 24/7 leaves the same way when its channel empties.
